PLANNING GUIDELINES

This four-page Planning Guide will help you organize the necessary information needed to build your website.

DOMAIN NAME SELECTION:

Your domain name will be your address on the internet.  Select a name that identifies your company clearly.

As potential internet customers search for you, they will do so via searches or links from other websites and they will automatically be taken to your site.  They may or not even remember your address.  Of course, your internet address will be very important when you advertise through newspapers, the media, direct mailings, etc.

A domain name can be a combination of letters and numbers.  Words can be separated by dashes (-), but most other symbol characters are not acceptable.  Domain names begin with "www." (World Wide Web) and can end with:

  • ".com" (commercial)

  • ".org"  (organization)

  • ".net"   (network, usually internet services)

An example:  www.go2webdesigns.com (use your company name) or www.wheaties.com (using a product brand).

Your Action Item for Domain Name:

  • Make a list of as many domain names as you wish.  We will check and report to you the availability of the names on your list.

Upon final selection, we will guide you through the registration process.  You will be billed directly for a two (2) or three (3) year registration.  All registrations are made in your company's name.  We will be listed on the registration as the Administrative Contact so we will be able to upload your new site to the internet.  You will maintain the domain records, and as the owner and billing contact, you will always have the individual authority to change the registration record, including the administrative contact.
