WHO WE ARE

We invite you to visit with us. We want the joy of   your company.  If you've been to our church we invite you to come again.  If you haven't, then how about next Sunday?  In our church family we have discovered a rich experience of fellowship, worship, growth and service. We want to share this with you.

Sr. Pastor Don Roe

What will you find here? Look to our fellowship and experience what kind of people we are!

We are a believing people.  At the heart of our lives is a faith in the good news of God's transforming love for all - shown in so many ways, but especially in the life, death and abiding presence of Jesus.

We are a worshipping people. At the center of our faith community is the drama of worship.  Weekly we gather to praise God, to affirm our faith, to confess our sins and celebrate God's forgiveness, to hear the scripture interpreted, to commit ourselves anew to Christian living.

We are a caring people. Through good times and bad we hold on to one another in Christian concern.  We love, and laugh, and cry together.  We bear one another’s burdens and rejoice in another’s joys.

We are a growing people.  We know that God calls us and supports us in a life-long journey.  Through study and sharing together we seek a clear understanding of our faith journey.  We related this to our resources of Scripture, tradition, experience and reason.  We seek a closer love with God and our neighbors -- a responsible discipleship in the world.

We are a serving people. We see the desperate hunger of our world, of people both here and around the globe.  We hear the yearnings for peace and justice.  God calls us to be co-creators in God’s ever unfolding creation.  We join in God's renewing work with our time, our energy, our dollars.

We are a varied fellowship. You will find many like yourself, and some who are not.

We are a community of all ages. All of us take part in a lively exchange across the generations.  There is no other place in our society where all ages meet, love, and serve together.

We are a community of varied circumstances.  We are married, unmarried, separated,  divorced, widowed.  Though our lifestyles may differ, we are students, homemakers, workers, and retired.  We are handicapped and homebound.

We rejoice in our differences.  Variety enriches our fellowship.  "We, though many, are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.  Romans 12:5.

We are rooted in faith. We do claim a "core faith", and yet our United Methodist tradition affords differences in belief.

We believe in:

  • A God of love which is alive in the world of our daily experience.
  • A God who created all that is, and still creates today.
  • A God who was revealed by Jesus, and through study of the Bible we learn the unending story revealed by the Holy Spirit.
  • A God who calls us to a community of faith through His church which is commissioned to care, to serve and be an instrument of grace.
  • A God who will not give up on us even though we may be tempted to give up on ourselves.
  • A God who calls us to a life of meaning in which we usher in a kingdom of peace and justice.

This is our universal affirmation:

United Methodists are quite free to "think and let think", as  our founder, John Wesley, advised.  As a result, we often find conscientious persons of faith on opposite sides of belief and perspective.  Still, our belief is not simply an arbitrary individual matter.  We use four guidelines to forming and testing our beliefs:  The Scriptures, our church traditions, our personal Christian experience, and our capacity to reason together.

This we believe:  Faith and love are inseparable.  A faith that is not exposed outwardly in loving action is hardly authentic faith.  Likewise, service to others that is not rooted in an inward trust in God's love is a hollow shell.  We United Methodists are believers and doers.

Visit with us.   Bring your own life journey, we look forward knowing that your journey will enrich us.

Love,

The Reverend Donald C. Roe
Senior Minister
