Los Angeles County Ordinance 16.70.080, Placement of Numbers by Owners or Occupants, requires that the owner or occupant of any property shall place the number assigned, in digits, not less than three inches in height and be visible from the street.

If you have a long driveway or private drive, having your address painted on the cement to the entrance to your property in reflective paint works very well at night.  (Related Ordinances 3104 LHHMC and 901.4.1 Uniform Fire Code)
